TCM & Fertility

The approach of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to infertility treatment is to regulate the female menstrual cycle according to the 4 phases of follicular development and maturity, ovulation and the luteal phase. A skilled TCM Practitioner will prescribe specific acupuncture points and often herbal medicine, according to each stage of the cycle, the symptoms presented and the underlying constitution of the individual. The aim of the treatment is to re-establish harmony within the individual, to create a more conducive environment for conception to take place.

Research shows that acupuncture regulates blood flow to the reproductive organs, increases thickness of endometrial tissue, balances hormone levels, reduces stress, increases ovarian and pituitary axis function and assists in healthy sperm production.
Acupuncture is often used to treat women’s health issues including; PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) endometriosis. It is also an effective for dealing with weight issues, low sperm count and abnormal sperm morphology, all of which are commonly associated with infertility.
